- John M. Deuro, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 14, 2022 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Facility in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Bongiovanni) Deuro.
John was raised in Niagara Falls, attending local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. He proudly served in the US Army, from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954 at the rank of Sgt. During that time, he was a radio operator and a mine sweeper while serving in Korea with the 25th Div. On June 30, 1956, he married Geraldine “Jere” A. (DeMunda) Deuro at St. Joseph’s Church. Mrs. Deuro predeceased him on August 16, 2019 after 63 years of marriage.
John worked in construction and was Vice President of Booth-DeMunda Lumber Company for over 20yrs. He was also employed at Carborundum Abrasives and retired from Oxy Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY. He was a member of the Elks BPOE Lodge #346, Moose Lodge, V.F.W and was on the first Board of Trustees for the Fatima Shrine in Youngstown, NY. He was a founding member of the 24th Street Ravens football club. John enjoyed traveling to Florida with his wife during the winter months to his son’s house, and in his spare time, playing cards, bowling and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, and his love for animals especially his dog Macy.
Mr. Deuro is survived by his sons, Jan (Claudia) Deuro, Jon Deuro, and Jason (Dawn) Deuro; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Randi) Deuro, Justin (Christine) Deuro, and Christopher (Jenn) Deuro; and his first great-granddaughter Lillian Eve Deuro as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leonard (late Mary) Deuro, Frank (late Lottie) Deuro, and Sisters Carrie (late Ray) Szalach, and Marie Bailey.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Our Lady of Peace for the extraordinary care given to john.
There was no prior visitation. John’s funeral services and entombment with Military Honors were held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, 500 Riverdale Avenue, Lewiston, NY 14092 which the immediate family attended.
