- Ida Massaro, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 12, 2017 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born on May 7, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Incorvia) Massaro.
Ida attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University with a Master’s Degree in Education. She was employed as an English teacher for the Niagara Falls Board of Education for over 35 years, retiring from Niagara Falls High School. In addition, Ida was legislative aid for Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte for 8 years.
Ida was a member of many clubs and committees throughout her life including the Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as president, and The Tatler Club. She also served as President of College Club of Niagara Falls, NCTE, NYSUT, Chairperson of District Committee of New Niagara Falls High School, Chairperson of the Niagara Falls and Niagara County Democratic Committee. She was presently a board member of the Friends of Niagara Falls Library, the Niagara Falls Human Rights Commission and State Parks Commissioner.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, traveling, as well as theatre and the arts. She will be remembered by her kindness, generosity and willingness to help others. Most of all, her life centered around her family, and she dearly loved her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
In honor of Ida’s tremendous contributions to her community, Niagara Falls will be illuminated in Red, White, and Blue on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 7:45 P.M.
Ida is survived by her siblings, JoAnn Massaro and Jim (Marie Borgese) Massaro; her nieces and nephews, Gordon J. Fogg, James J. (Karolyn) Massaro, Lisa M. Mackenna, Anthony J. (Ashley) Massaro, and Laura A. Massaro, seven great nieces and nephews, two aunts, several cousins, and many close relatives and friends especially Allison and Emily Kasprzak.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 - 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 Military Road Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
