JAMES WILLIAM SMITH
James William “Jim” Smith, 84, of Lynn Haven, FL, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020. Jim was born in Lockport, NY, and lived in Bay County, Florida for the past 20 years. He worked for General Motors Corp., retiring from the Engineering Department after 45 years service. Jim was a private pilot, and enjoyed bowling, traveling, and taking day trips. He was Catholic by faith. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Smith, and his first wife, Margaret Bruning Smith, a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Smith, his sister, Gladys Minckly and his brother, Robert Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude “Gert” Bonnett-Smith; his son, Dr. Michael Smith of Panama City Beach, FL and his children, Michaela McKenzie (Connor) and Race Smith; daughter, Suzette Sullivan (Patrick) of Freeville, NY; his stepchildren, John Bonnett of Ogden, UT and Jeanine La Mere (Craig) of Panama City, FL; his step-grandchildren, Jacob La Mere (Stephanie) and Daniel La Mere (Nikki); a step-great-granddaughter, Reagan La Mere; and his nephews, James Gailie, John Gailie, John Smith and Todd Smith.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 12, 2020, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Panama City, FL, with Fr. Kevin McQuone officiating. Interment will be held in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, NY, at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s name may be made to St. John Catholic Church Building Fund, 1008 Fortune Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401
