- Marietta Janik, 82, of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024 at her residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mario and Lena (Capolupo) Masocco.
Marietta was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School. She later earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Buffalo State College. On July 10, 1965, she married Paul J. Janik at St. Joseph’s Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Marietta was employed for over 30 years in the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District as an Art Teacher, spending her entire career at Edward Town Middle School, until her retirement in 2002. She had the unique honor of being able to teach her own children.
Marietta had a true passion and love for art. She also enjoyed gardening, attending Buffalo Bills games, bowling in various local leagues, and traveling. She battled Parkinson’s Disease with grace, and even selflessly volunteered to mentor and advocate for others while she was in the height of her own illness. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and especially cherished attending her grandchildren’s sporting and recreational events.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Marietta is survived by her children, Kristen Janik, Paul (Christine) Janik, and John (Janine) Janik; her grandchildren, Ann Hernandez, Jamon Janik, Ramsey Janik, Lauren Janik, and Kaylee Janik; her brother, Al (late Debbie) Masocco; her sister-in-law, Kathy (late Tom) Tedesco, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, John (late Natalie) Janik, and Ron (late Alice) Janik.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14 from 11 AM to 1 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
