- George W. McCollum, of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, in Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 27, 1937, the son of the late Melville C. and Marion [Robinson] McCollum.
Mr. McCollum graduated from Wilson High School and served with the US Navy Seabees. He was a operating engineer with 56 years of service with the Operating Engineer Local 463 in Ransomville, NY and served as president for 20 years, before retiring in 1996 as business manager of the local. He was a member of the the Island X-8 Tonawanda Seabees and was involved in the construction of the Seabee Monument on River Road. He also enjoyed restoring antique tractors, farming and construction.
Mr. McCollum was the husband of the late Annette M. (Upton) McCollum. He is survived by one son Paul (Shelley) McCollum, one daughter Lynne (Bryan) Mueller both of Sanborn, two grandchildren Thomas and Diane McCollum, two brothers Arthur Day (Irene) McCollum and Lauren Zane (Beverly) McCollum, two sisters and Marilyn Joy Cupido and Elizabeth Gay (Richard) Wickham, also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Melville C. McCollum, III.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, on Sunday from 1-5 PM and on Monday from 10-11:00 AM, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. William T. Lowery, Jr. , of Ransomville Free Methodist Church officiating, followed by Military Honors.
Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
