Mary Colomba "Collie" Castiglione of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 after a brief illness. She had been under Hospice care at Odd Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Center.
Collie was born to Guiseppe and Agata Eleuteri on July 31, 1923 in the town of Cesacastina in Abruzzi, Italy, and passed through Ellis Island to settle in Niagara Falls as an infant. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1941 and worked as a secretary in the office of Colonial Village Elementary School for many years.
Collie crocheted over 200 personalized baby blankets that were sent across the country as gifts for the newborns of families and friends. These blankets are cherished by all who were fortunate enough to receive them
and are a lasting symbol of
the love she had for children. Throughout the years she traveled to Italy and was able to reconnect with her wonderful extended family there. These trips were the highlights of her life. Her favorite saying was "Famiglia e tutto".
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Biagio Castiglione, daughters Nancy (Gary) Kline of New Tripoli PA, Carol (Philip) Kratz of Lockport, NY, and sons Gary (Debi) Castiglione of Loxahatchee, FL, and Robert (Carol) Castiglione of Walland, TN. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy: Christina, Andrea, Benjamin, Nathan, Danny, Jesse, Lisa and Julie; as well as her six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Madeline Carver and Lydia (James) Garvey, both of Niagara Falls, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Eleuteri, and a sister, Clara (Angelo) Nicoletti.
There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined. Visit www.niagara-gazette.com
