- James (Jim) Garvey, age 83, passed away at Our Lady of Peace after a long illness. Jim was born in Philipsburg, PA to the late James and Josephine (McTigue) Garvey. Jim graduated from LaSalle Senior High School and served in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller. He was employed at the Niagara Gazette and Buffalo Courier Express until his retirement. He was a proud member of the NY State Champion Simon Pure Baseball team. He was a dedicated Notre Dame and Penn State fan. His greatest joy was taking his grandchildren camping and fishing near his hometown of Philipsburg.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Lydia (Eleuteri) Garvey, his daughter Gail (Salvatore) Amato and son Keith (Christena) Garvey. He was father of the late James Michael Garvey. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Beth (Tim) Good, Christopher (Angela) Amato, Michael (Jennifer) Amato, Alex (Jessica) Amato, Kaitlin (Joe) Nicholas and Elizabeth (Michael) Seelbinder. Jim had the joy of attending the weddings of all six of his Grandchildren. He is also survived by nine Great-Grandchildren. Jim is survived by his brother Leo (Jane) Garvey and was predeceased by his brother Jack (Emilia) Garvey. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
