- Frances (Fitt) Hyla, 79, passed away on November 15, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Nursing Facility in Fullerton, CA. Born in Niagara Falls on February 28, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Rose (Kiesewski) Fitt.
She was employed at Walker's Laundry, International Paper Mill and retired from the Niagara Falls School District after 20 plus years. She worked as a gym aid primarily at Gaskill where she was affectionately known as 'Aunt Fran' by the staff and 'Mom' by students for her loving and caring ways. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and many arts and crafts, especially tole painting.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter Hyla; her son, Robert (Rebecca) Hyla; grandchildren, Robert, Jr. and Lauren; her sister, Florence Brierley; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lynn Marie.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3-7 PM at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, corner of Niagara and 24th Streets with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
