- Obituary of James T. Briody
James T. Briody, age 89, of Lockport, NY died after a courageous battle with cancer on June 28, 2021. Jim was born and was raised in Lockport to Edna (Quinlivan) and Francis Briody. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William F. Briody and a great-grandchild, Kian Burke. Jim was married to the love of his life, Joan (McCormick) Briody who went to heaven on March 5, 2021. They will now be together now to celebrate 65 years of marriage on July 7, 2021
Jim and Joan were the proud parents of 4 children, Molly (Michael) Gatto, Flourtown, Pa, Thomas Briody, San Francisco, CA, Ann (Daniel) Petock, Lockport, NY, Susan (Robert) Burke, Stuart, FL and daughter-in-law Greta Schultz, Youngstown, NY. They were proud grandparents to Meghan (Travers) Mackle, New Orleans, LA, Emily (Franziskus) Bertl, Lansdale, PA, Nicholas (Emily) Gatto, Plymouth Meeting, PA, Patrick (Melissa) Briody, Chicago, IL, Elizabeth (Courtney) McKeegan, Shaker Heights, OH, Erin (Steve) Schlegel, Ontario, NY, Kelley Petock, Rochester, NY, Shaun (Jaime) Burke, Lockport, NY, Ryan (Casey) Burke, Pittsford, NY, Katie (Justin) Lute, Lockport, NY. They were also blessed to have 17 great-grandchildren.
Jim attended DeSales Catholic High School and University of Buffalo. Jim and Joan owned and operated Briody Health Care Facility for over 30 years and Niagara Homemakers (now Mercy Homecare) for 18 years. Jim was very involved in many business and philanthropic organizations. Included are the Knights of Columbus, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lockport Rotary Club (President), Niagara County Mental Health Association, Niagara County Nursing Home Association (President), NY State Nursing Home Association, District 10 (Vice- President and President), Lockport Meals on Wheels (President), American College of Nursing Home Administrators (State Chapter President, Region II Vice Governor) and the Western New York Hospital Association. Jim was also appointed to the New York State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.
Jim was a selfless individual who valued education, his faith and above all love for his family. He and Joan were dedicated to ensuring the dignity of the residents of their facility and integrity was a keystone in both of their lives.
A mass of Christian burial, celebrating both Jim and Joan, will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St. Lockport, NY at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rotary Club of Lockport, PO Box 1199, Lockport, NY 14095.
