Mr. and Mrs Alan G.
Brittin Sr. of 5308 Mapleton
Road, Lockport, were entertained
at a dinner party
Saturday given by their children.
The occasion marked
the 50th wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. Brittin
who have made their home
at the Mapleton Road address
for the past 49 years.
The couple was married
Sept. 24, 1919 at the home
of the bride in the Township
of Cayuga, Ontario,
Canada, by the Rev. William
J. Fiddes of Wesley
Methodist Church.
Their golden anniversary
was celebrated at the Fieldstone
Inn, Lockport. A tiered
anniversary cake topped
by three golden bells centered
the table. This was
flanked by candelabra, holding
gold tapers and arrangements
of snapdragons and
mums in white and yellow.
Mrs. Alan Brittin Jr. made
and decorated the cake.
A retired printer, Mr.
Brittin was employed by
the former Buffalo Times
until 1939 when he joined the
'Buffalo Courier - Express.
He retired from the Courier
on Oct. 1 of 1960.
Born Sept. 13, 1895 at
Woolton, England, Mr. Brittin's
parents were Edward
and Marian Driver Brittin
of Woolton. In 1899 the family
came from England to
Buffalo.
Mrs. Brittin is the former
Mary L. Murphy and
was born in the Township
of Cayuga, Ontario, where
her family were early settlers.
She is the daughter of
James and Rachel Morgan
Murphy.
For the golden anniversary
party, Mrs. Brittin was
attired in a blue lace sheath
dress with matching jacket.
Her corsage was of yellow
sweetheart roses.
Attending from out - oftown
were Mr. and Mrs.
George Knaisch and sons of
Orchard Park and Miss
Mary Jane Brittin, a student
at the State University
at Potsdam, their eldest
granddaughter.
The couple has five children
and 11 grandchildren.
Hosts for die anniversary
celebration were their children,
Mrs. Eldred H. (Gertrude)
Collins of Bridgeton,
Mo.; Alan G. Brittin
Jr., Town of Lockport; Miss
Martha E. Brittin**, at home;
Arthur R. Brittin of Lockport;
and Mrs. George F.
(Dorothy) Knaisch, Orchard
Park.
