Mrs. Elizabeth Mentz.
Mrs. Elizabeth Mentz, wife of William
P. Mentz, died at 5:30 o'clock this morning
at the homestead on the River road, between
this city and Lewiston. After being
in feeble health for over two months Mrs.
Mentz went to bed 10 weeks ago Saturday.
Her condition, despite the best, medical attendance,
continued to grow worse and on
Friday it was recognized that her demise
was but a matter of a short time. On Saturday
her relatives were sent for and this
morning they surrounded the bed as the
end came peacefully.
The cause of death, so far as known, was
ulceration of the stomach, but with this
diagnosis of the case the doctors have not
been quite satisfied and an autopsy may be
held to determine the exact cause.
Mrs. Mentz was a daughter of Jacob J.
Vogt of Niagara avenue this city. She was
boui 53 years ago on the old Vogt homestead
near the Devil's Hole property and
was married 34 years ago to William P.
Mentz. Their home has always been a
happy one and death has clouded it now
for the first time. She was a woman of true
christian spirit and loved by many.
Other surviving relatives besides her
husband and father are one little daughter,
..Miss Lizzie Mentz, at home, one
brother, J. G. Vogt. and four sisters, Mrs.
William Shaeffer. Lockport; Mrs. H. Bennington,
Dexter, N. Y.; Mrs. Dr. Coe,
Syracuse, and Mrs. H. S. Tompkins of La
Salle.
The funeral will be held from her late
residence at 2 P.M. Wednesday.
