- Anthony M. Custode, Sr., of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on October 18, 2019. Born on April 9, 1963, he was the son of the late Lewis, Sr. and Patricia (Amendola) Custode.
In his early years, Anthony worked in the family business (Amendola Printing Co.) and went on to become a tradesman in the graphic arts industry in WNY and Florida. Specializing in typesetting, graphic design, and die cutting, Anthony was a proficient Linotype and Letterpress operator who took great pride in his work; examples of which turn up repeatedly on nostalgic Niagara Falls social media sites.
A tradesman by profession, his passion was music. As an accomplished musician and percussionist, Anthony was best known as a founding member and the original drummer of “The Junk Yard Dogs”, a popular local blues band. Under his hard-driving and passionate playing, they won The Blues Society of Western New York’s Memphis Bound Competition in 2001 and Buffalo Music Awards Top Traditional Blues Band in 2006. Other bands that Anthony performed with were “Brass on Ivory”, “The Unauthentic Dixieland-Ragtime Band”, “Swing Shift”, “Big Tobacco”, “Christina Custode & Re-Run” and “The Custode & Parisi Jazz Quartet”.
Anthony was an energetic and loving person who was always the “life of the party”. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing, playing pool, shooting darts and owned/operated the “Bulls-Eye Dart Center” on 18th street in the mid 1980s. Whatever the venture, he was a true competitor and pursued every activity with passion and enthusiasm.
A loving father, Anthony is survived by his children Kelly (Sam) Miller and Patrick Custode, and grandchild Gavin Miller. Anthony is also survived by his is brother Lewis (Maria) Custode, Jr., sister AnnMarie (Glen) Waud, nieces Barbara Casavant, Laura (Patrick) Keiper, and Christina Custode. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, his ex-spouse Dianna Regan and his lifelong friend Michael Boyd, along with great niece and nephew Trynity and Patrick Keiper and friends too numerous to mention. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all.
