CASTILE - Mrs. Eleanor
Brownell Torrey, 48, of East
Lake Road, a music teacher
formerly of Gasport, died
Thursday after an illness of six
years
The Perry Kiwanis Club gave
Mrs. Torrey its Award of the
Year in 1970. She retired that
year after teaching for 21 years
in the Perry Central School
District.
Her husband Charles Torrey
survives her, with her father,
Roy H. Brownell, and an aunt,
Mrs. Belle Clare, both of
Gasport, and an uncle, George
Clare of Buffalo.
Mrs. Torrey was born in
Gasport, Aug. 26, 1922, and was
graduated from Barker High
School in 1938. Fredonia Normal
School gave her a bachelor of
Science degree in 1942 and she
later received a Master of Arts
Degree from Geneseo State
College.
Mrs. Torrey taught in Pennsylvania
for two years and in
L e t c h w o r t h Central School
District for three years before
teaching in the Perry district.
She was a member of the
New York State Teachers
Association and president of the
Wyoming County Teachers
Association.
She served as organist at the
Perry United Methodist Church
Friends may call at the
Harmon Funeral Home, Mam
St., Castile from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday.
Services will be in the funeral
home at 2 p.m. Sunday. The
Rev. Clyde Embling will officiate,
assisted by the Rev.
George Manning.
