- Obituary of William Cygnor, Jr. William L. Cygnor, Jr., age 90 of Youngstown, died Tuesday September 1, 2015 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.William was born August 11, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late William L. Sr. and Ellen (Smith) Cygnor. Raised in Syracuse, NY, he was a graduate of Nottingham High School. William enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served until his honorable discharge in 1946. He had served as seaman First Class aboard the U.S.S. Dennis J. Buckley and was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal. After the war William finished his education, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Niagara University. He was employed by Marine Midland Bank for 30 years, retiring in 1988 as a Financial Advisor with their Trust Department. William married Louise O. (Cecere) Cygnor on February 13, 1960 and they moved to Lewiston in 1969.An avid golfer, William was a member of Niagara Frontier Country Club. In the 1970's William was one of the announcer's for the start of the Porter Cup. He was a communicant of St. Bernard's RC Church in Youngstown; a member of the Niagara University Booster Club and the Niagara University Hall of Fame Committee. He was Past President of Mt. St. Mary's Board of Associates and a former member of the Lewiston Kiwanis and Niagara Falls Lion's Club. He is survived by his wife, Louise; his children, William J. Cygnor of Pebble Beach, CA, Gregory J. Cygnor of Williamsville, NY, and Lois M. (Jim) Hale of Centreville, VA; and his grandchildren, Alex and Noelle Hale. He will be sadly missed by his golf partners, Don Thurman and Ron D'Arcangelo.Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 5 - 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, at 9:30 am in St. Bernard's RC Church, Hinman & Second Sts., Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Private burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of WNY, 2805 Wherle Dr. Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
