Edward Brunner, 34 year, old, of 157 East Felton street, de-spondent over ill health and lack of employment, commited suicide
at 9 o'clock this morning by shooting himself with a 32-calibre re-
volver in his bedroom at his home.
Death came instantly. Brunner held the barrel of the revolver
in his mouth and fired the shot. The bullet took an upward course,
penetrating his brain.
Members of the family heard the
shot but though it was the backfire of"
an automobile in the street. Later,
when they called to Brunner and received
no response, his dead body was
found lying across the bed. The man
apparently stood at the edge of the
bed, when he fired the shot.
Dr. Henry Smoyer was called. He
investigated and notified Coroner J. E.
Helwig.
Brunner was employed at the plant
of the Tonawanda Paper Company on
Clay street since Tuesday. He start-
ed for work as usual at 7:30 o'clock
this morning and returned home
shortly before 9 o'clock with the an-
announcement that he had been laid
off.
Brunner went' immediately to his
room on the ground floor of the dwell-
ing and a few minutes later the fatal
shot was fired. Members of the fam-
iy said Brunner was injured at a pre-
vious place of employmen and had
been in ill health since he was strick-
en with influenza a year ago.
Came Here Last Year
The Brunners were keeping house
for George Grose at the East Felton
street adress. They came to North
Tonawanda from an estern city last
September.
Mrs. Brunner was downstairs pre-
paring to go to another part of the
city for a visit when her husband's
body was discovered. She supposed
he was upstairs dressing to accom-
pany her on theh trip, when he fired
dthe shot that ended his life.
Besides his wife, Brunner is sur-
vived by two children,, a son and a
daughter. Relatives said Brunner in
no way indicated that he contempllat-
ed suicide when he came home this
morning.

The funeral of Edward Brunner,
who committed suicide by shooting
himself through the temple while up
stairs at his home, 157 East Felton
street, yesterday morning,, will be held
Sunday afternoon rom the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
Brunner. 240 Main street, Tonawanda.
Rev.Thomas Cowan of the First Bap
tist church will conduct the services.
and burial will be in the City cem-
etery.
Besides his wife and parents Brun-
ner is survived by five brothers An-
drew Brunner of Cleveland, George
Brunner of Rochester and Charles,
William and Frank Brunner of Tonawanda,
and three sisters, Mrs. Rose
Lacey of Sunnyside, Wash., Mrs Wil-
liam Leadersdorf of Tonawanda and
Mrs. Herman Baldwin of Rochester.
Brunner became a member of the
local branch of the Fraternal Order
of Moose recently.
