Michael "Mitch" Kowbel, 84, of Liverpool, NY passed away Tuesday, July 2 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mitch was born March 3, 1929 in Hamtramck, MI, to Michael and Helen Kowbel. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mitch worked at Carrier Air Conditioning as a mechanical engineer for 32 years. He was proud of his Polish heritage and was an avid sports fan. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; sister, Ann Patterson; daughters, Micki (Joe) Horsford, Nancy (Fred) Tolbert; sons, Gary (Danna) Zacharek, Keith (Nancy) Zacharek, Jim (Terri) Kowbel, Greg (Wanda) Kowbel, Paul (Linda) Kowbel, Marty (Gina) Kowbel, 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sally; and two sons, George and Kenneth Zacharek. Calling hours will be Friday, July 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home, 1320 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass will be held at Transfiguration Church, Teall Ave., Syracuse, NY on Saturday, July 6 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calmra, Inc., 5020 Sunnyside Avenue, Suite 206, Beltsville, Maryland 20705.
