George A. Zimmerman,
Ex-N. T. Commissioner
Dies After Illness
George A. Zimmerman, 78,
former welfare commissioner
of North Tonawanda, died
Monday after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Zimmerman
lived in the Twin
Cities over 75 years. His last
address here was 340 Bryant,
St. Recently he lived with a
daughter, Mrs. Herbert Gern,
Kenmore.
Mr. Zimmerman was a
charter member of Tonawandas
Aerie 1411, Eagles, of
which he had been secretary
for 42 years. He was a past
state treasurer of the State
Aerie, FOE, a member of the
Modern Woodmen of America
and a 30-year member of the
Union Hook & Ladder Volunteer
Fire Company.
Mr. Zimmerman was a
member of Friedens Evangelical
& Reformed Church.
Surviving are two daughters.
Mrs. Arnold Buchhardt,
North Tonawanda, and Mrs.
Herbert Gern, Kenmore.
Services will be at 2 p.m.
Thursday at the Hamp Funeral
Home. 37 Adam St. The
Rev. Carl E. Berges will officiate.
