LAWRENCE SDAO
Lawrence Sdao, 88, of the Niagara Geriatric Center and formerly of South Avenue, a barber, died Wednesday (April 30, 1997) in the geriatric center.
Sdao was born in Reggio, Calabria, Italy, came to Pennsylvania with his family in 1920 and moved to Niagara Falls in 1925. He attended local schools.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1945.
He was a barber on Niagara Street for several years before he entered the military. In the service, Sdao was also a barber, and afterwards he cut hair in several area barbershops, lastly at the Ramada Inn. He retired in 1973.
Sdao was a member of Barbers Union Local 780 and St. Mary's of the Cataract Catholic Church's Holy Name Society in the 1950s through the 1970s.
He enjoyed cooking, yachting and gardening.
His wife, the former Anna Petito, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Joseph of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Jean Campola; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held today.
