EUGENE "GENE" A. BUFFONE
Eugene "Gene" A. Buffone, 77, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Monday, December 18, 2006, at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY.
Born on September 7, 1929, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Alexander and Maria (Alfano) Buffone.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, and attended local schools. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal from March 22, 1951 until his honorable discharge on March 22, 1953, and continued to serve following his discharge with the reserves until November 5, 1956.
Gene married Loretta G. (Ferrusi) Buffone on September 29, 1951, at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. They resided in San Francisco, CA while he was in the military and returned to Niagara Falls following his discharge.
Gene worked in the maintenance department and was also in charge of the book depository for the Niagara Falls Board of Education and retired in 1990 after thirty-three years of service. Prior to that, he worked at the former Hooker Chemical Company and the Carborundum Co. both in Niagara Falls and also as a contractor with his brother, Nick, for Urban Construction.
Gene was a charter member and served as past president of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America Cataract Lodge in Niagara Falls. He was also a member of the American War Veterans, the American Legion, and the John Duke Senior Center all of Niagara Falls.
Gene was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting. He also liked bowling, golfing, playing bocce ball, card games, and the casino. His other pleasure was traveling with his wife Loretta, and he particularly enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii.
In addition to his wife of fifty-five years, Mr. Buffone is survived by two daughters, Sandra M. Walaszek, Niagara Falls, NY, and Cheryl A. (Jeff) Seelbinder of Lewiston, NY; four grandchildren, Melanie and Ed Walaszek, Jeff and April Seelbinder as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also predeceased by three brothers, Joseph (Jean of Niagara Falls, NY) Buffone, Oswald "Ozzie" (late Julie) Buffone, and Ersilio "Nick" Buffone.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Thursday, December 21 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Robert J. Hora officiating.
Entombment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors.
