- Lillian Smead Neumann, of Ransomville, NY, entered into the presence of her Lord Jesus on December 13, 2018, at Niagara Hospice House. She was born on November 1, 1916, in Buffalo, NY. Lillian was the wife of Laurence Neumann for 76 years. Lillian's late parents were Hartwell W. and Lillian M. Smead.
She was educated at Buffalo State Teachers College and taught grade school at various locations in New York State: Big Flats, Youngstown, and Ransomville at the Harry Stevenson Elementary School where she retired. During her retirement years, she taught in the Ransomville Free Methodist Preschool and Frontier Christian Academy at the Niagara Frontier Bible Church in Lewiston, NY.
She was a longtime dedicated member at the Ransomville Free Methodist Church and the Niagara Frontier Bible Church. She loved to study the Bible and share her insights with people of all ages. Lillian was also a member of the Ransomville Rural Retirees for many years. She loved to be with her six children, 20 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Her favorite longtime vacation spot was Lake Mazinaw in Cloyne, Ontario, where she had sweet memories of sitting around the campfire and singing praises to God as the sound echoed out over the lake at night.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Larry; her only brother, Neil Smead; and her son-in-law, Kenneth Hockenberry. She was also the mother of Neil (Cindy), David (Carol), Marcia (Kenneth) Hockenberry, Richard (JoAnn), Mark (Lonnie), and Kelly (Mark) Ritchey. She is survived by two nieces, Sandra Nesbitt and SueAnn Megran; and two nephews, Larry Smead and James Neumann.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Niagara Frontier Bible Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 11:00AM. Pastors Richard Gilbert and Tom Broderick will be officiating.
