- Peter Castiglione passed away on February 12, 2018 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. He was born on December 3, 1927 to Salvatore and Annunziata (Guido) Castiglione in Niagara Falls, NY.
A union carpenter by trade, Peter worked on several notable projects, including the Capitol Records building in Los Angeles and the Niagara Falls Power Project. In his retirement, he volunteered for 15 years for the North Tonawanda Food Pantry. He was most proud of his work as a volunteer for the Heart, Love, and Soul Food Bank, working the crowd for donations as they entered Artpark on Tuesday nights. He made many fans there and was responsible for raising many funds for his efforts.
His mother died when he was very young. During the Depression, when his father was unable to support the family, he had to place them into foster care. However, he insisted that Peter and his three siblings all remain together. Thankfully, the Arnone family of Niagara Falls took great care of them until his father was once again able to support them all. As a result of those beginnings, the most important thing to our father was his family. We will always cherish memories of Fourth of July picnics hosted in his backyard for over 40 years, Sundays at Elco Beach, playing “zoo” with the grandkids and sitting at the head of the table for Sunday dinner which he did until the week before he entered Hospice. And we promise, Dad, to always remember to drive carefully….
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Eleanor (Gabriel) Castiglione. He is also survived by his five children: Jane Killewald, Jerry (Maureen) Castiglione, Donna Castiglione, Marie (Lance) Lillian, and Paul (Chris) Castiglione. He had 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Benny (late Collie) Castiglione, Joe (late Gloria) Castiglione, and a sister, Rachel (late Gregory) Foran, all of Lewiston, NY.
Visitation will be Friday February 16th from 4-7 P.M. at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Rd, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. Everyone please assemble at Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church or Niagara Hospice. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
