- Walter J. Wiatr, Jr. passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at his home while under the care of his loving family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls on May 28, 1940, the son of the late Walter and Sophie (Ciesielski) Wiatr, Sr.
Mr. Wiatr attended local schools and worked for the New York Central Railroad for 16 years. He then worked as an inspector at Harrison Radiator for 37 years and retired in 1999. On July 7, 1962 he was married to the former Dorothy Trzeciak at Holy Trinity Church. He was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and walking Hyde Park Golf Course. He enjoyed going to the casino, horse racing and was an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Mr. Wiatr especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter and was a helpful friend to all his neighbors.
Mr. Wiatr is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Trzeciak) Wiatr; his children, Thomas (Diane) Wiatr of Niagara Falls, David (Anita) Wiatr of Las Vegas, NV, Kathleen (Mark) Becker of Niagara Falls and Michelle (Joseph) Holody of Erie, PA; his grandchildren, Michelle, David, Julia and Mary; great-granddaughter, Isabella; 7 step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his brothers, Anthony Wiatr and John Wiatr; and his sisters, Rita Wylucki and Elizabeth Jaroszewski. He was predeceased by his sisters, Aline Pokoj and Adele Bateman.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 until 7 pm at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc. 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
