- Samuel F. ‘Scorch’ Mantell, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on August 8, 2022 at his residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Julia (Spanovich) Mantell.
Scorch was raised in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On June 2, 1956, he married Rose G. (Vicario) Mantell at St. Paul’s Church in Kenmore, NY. Mrs. Mantell predeceased him on October 6, 2016 after 60 years of marriage. Sam was employed with Laborer’s Local 91 for over 60 years in Niagara Falls, working first in the field and later as a Business Agent. Scorch enjoyed spending his summers at Leisurewood in Akron, NY with his family and friends and his late dog, Bruno, who was the pride of Leisurewood. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family.
Samuel is survived by his children, Julie (Wayne) Evans, Doraine (late ‘Bobby) Gravanti (Robert Pennington), and Tammi (Mark) Raborn; his grandchildren, Jamie Naus, Michael (Karen) Naus, Zachary Evans (Noelle Russell), Ryan Raborn, Heather (Derrick) Pegram, and Jessica Belandria (Amaury Roman); his great-grandchildren, Jonathon Nelson, Emerson Naus, Isabelle Naus, Max, Luke, Cade, Nina, and Coy; his brother, Ronald (Martha) Mantell, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of Gerri (Mark) Salay, the late Louise (late William) Manspeaker, and the late Charles (Candace) Vicario, II.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10 from 3 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, 14304, where funeral services will begin on Thursday at 11 AM. Entombment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
