- Gary J. Raby, Sr. age 63, of Lewiston, died on Friday, January 20, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport after a lengthy illness. Gary was born on April 19, 1953 in Lewiston, the son of the late Chester and Ada (Collins) Raby Labelle.
He was a 1971 graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School and attended Sterling College in Kansas to play football. After a year Gary returned to Lewiston and graduated from Niagara University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education in 1976. He was employed by Saint Gobain Ceramics in Niagara Falls, NY for 40 years, retiring as a Quality Control Inspector in 2016.
Gary was affectionately known as High Five Coach. He had coached the Cross Country and Track Team at Lew-Port for many years. Gary was an avid runner, participated in many marathons, and was a member of Checkers Running Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Darlene K. (Leo) Raby; a son, Gary J. (Tatyana) Raby, Jr. of Tonawanda, NY; a daughter, Jennifer K. Raby of Lewiston; a grandson, Nicholas Raby; two sisters, Leslie (Thomas) Dugan and Marlene (Michael) DiNardo both of Lewiston; and two brothers-in-law, Ernest and Vincent Leo, both of Niagara Falls, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved chocolate Lab, Pre. He was predeceased by a son, Jason M. Raby; and his father and mother-in-law, Vincent, Sr. and Katherine Leo.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25th at 10:00 AM in St. Peter RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. (Please assemble at Church). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
