Thaddeus 'Teddy'/'Spider' John Sikora, 90, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Northgate Manor in North Tonawanda. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on May 3, 1926 to the late Anthony and Stanislawa 'Stella' (Czekala) Sikora. Teddy resided in Niagara Falls, then later in North Tonawanda, NY, and his final years at Northgate Manor.
He attended Gaskill Jr. High School and Trott Vocational High School. At Trott he played halfback on the city championship football team and was given the nickname 'Spider.' After graduating from Trott, he joined the Army on August 18, 1944 to serve in WWII, graduating from NCO Training. He was stationed in Fort Benning, GA., training the new recruits for the war. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the 29th Infantry Battalion on July 7, 1946. Spider received the WWII Victory medal, American Campaign medal and the Good Conduct medal for his service to his country. After the war he married the love of his life, Florence Bannon, on May 17, 1947 and they were married for 57 years until her passing on March 17, 2004.
Teddy retired from Carborundum Company, Bonded Division, after 40 years, in 1983. Spider enjoyed working in his yard, watching the Buffalo Bills, playing golf, bowling, bingo and weekly casino trips.
Teddy was a past member of the P.R.U.C bowling team, B.P.O. Elks lodge, American Legion (Niagara Falls) and St. Jude's RC Church (St. Alberts) located in North Tonawanda, NY.
Thaddeus is survived by his children, Nancy (William) Wojtowicz, Diane (James) Horst and Sandra (Mark) Caldwell; four grandchildren, Adrienne Friedrichs, Ryan (Deanna) Caldwell, Brian (Colleen) Wojtowicz and Kelly Caldwell; five great-grandchildren, Connor, Tanner, Matthew, Zach and Molly.
Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony (Sophie) Sikora, Jr. and Matthew (Esther) Sikora; sisters, Mary (Norman) Hansen, Helen (Peter) Kankolewski, Kathleen 'Kay' (Stephen) Ziarno, Bernice (William) Franciszkiewicz and Jane (John) Jenkins.
Teddy's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Northgate Manor for the caring services they provided to their father at his time of need. Thank You! Sikora family.
Friends may call Sunday, March 12th from 3-7 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 24th street, cor of Welch Ave, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial with Military honors will be held on Monday, March 13th 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 2734 Niagara Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with Reverend Jacek Mazur officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
