- James E. Tweed, 65, passed away suddenly to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born March 16, 1952 in Niagara Falls, NY to James E. Tweed, Sr. and Dolores (Barto) Tweed. He attended local grade schools, Center Avenue and G.J. Mann Elementary School. He also attended LaSalle Junior High School and was a 1970 graduate of LaSalle Senior High School.
When Jim was 8 years old, he played baseball for Cayuga Zone 7 Little League beginning his long time love of the game. While attending LaSalle Senior High School, he was a three sport athlete playing football, baseball, and wrestling. Jim was captain of the LaSalle Explorers Varsity Football and Varsity Baseball team in his senior year. The 1970 LaSalle Explorers Varsity Baseball team won the high school championship with Jim being the starting catcher. He was later nominated for all county catcher. He was always enthusiastic about his athletic accomplishments and loved to tell stories of his proudest moments in football and baseball. In Jim’s senior year, he was voted Most Athletic by the Senior Class. Jim continued his baseball talents while attending N.C.C.C. as the starting catcher. Jim’s love of the game of baseball led him to play for American Legion and Muny Double-Eye baseball teams along with fastpitch and slo-pitch softball teams.
Later in life, he continued to pass along his knowledge of baseball through managing/coaching. For ten years, he was a manager for Cayuga Little League in the baseball senior division. He loved teaching the youth of the area the skills of the game and what it meant to be part of a team. His main message was, “Respect.” He passed down his coaching abilities to his sons. He was an avid New York Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan.
While attending N.C.C.C., he was program director at the LaSalle Y.M.C.A. organizing basketball leagues, Tiny Tot gym classes and many other activities from 1970-1973. Jim was employed by S.K.W. Alloys in 1976 that later became Globe Metallurgical. He was employed there for over 35 years retiring in 2015. He was a work horse known as, “King of the Mix.” He loved to play the piano and sing. Jim was a religious man and his life was guided by his faith. On November 16, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Szabo.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; four loving children, James Anthony Tweed, Janelle Elizabeth Tweed, Mrs. William (Jennifer) T. Preisch Jr., and Jeffrey Joseph Tweed; four cherished grandsons, William T. III, Zachary James, Anthony Jordan, and Jacob Joseph Preisch; his mother, Dolores (Barto) Tweed; siblings Mrs. Michael (Linda) Martin, Mrs. John (Patricia) Rieker, Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Perno, Brian (Carolyn) Tweed, all of Niagara Falls, NY; Mrs. Martin (Cheryl) Krysiak of Tonawanda, NY; brother-in-law William A. Szabo; also many uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, James E. Tweed, Sr. in 1990.
The most important thing to Jim was being with his family. He especially loved being with his grandsons whether he was watching them at their baseball games or playing pool. Jim cherished the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Until we meet again, we love you.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-7 PM at Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 10th at 11 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Prince of Peace site, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating and burial in St. Joseph’s R.C Cemetery.
