- Norma J. Mielke Lewis, on August 6, 2015, Norma was called Home to be with the Lord. She was born Norma Jean Dean on October 10, 1928 to Clyde and Alzina [Daly] Dean and was the sister of Robert (Alice) Dean, all of whom predeceased her.
Norma attended local schools and made many life long friends. She was employed with the Casselman Telephone Company and later by Moore Business Forms. Norma enjoyed square dancing at the local grange hall and it was there that she met Donald Mielke, whom she later married. He predeceased her on August 29, 1969.
She was later employed by the Niagara County Department of Social Services, where she worked until she retired in 1992. Norma was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Sanborn and was a member of the Ladies Aid & Altar Guild. She was also the longest member of the Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary.
On September 11, 1992, she married James Lewis. They spent half of their time in their home in Sanborn, where Norma excelled at baking and cooking and feeding anyone who came through the door.
She also enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a welcome face at the Sanborn Area Historical Society, where she was a member and frequent volunteer since she joined after her marriage and she was a member of the Sanborn Seniors and the Thursday nite card club. Norma was a Florida "snowbird" for 18 years.
Norma is survived by her devoted husband Jim, daughters Susan (Robert) DeVantier of Sanborn and Sandra (Erwin) Schurz of Williamsburg, VA, a step son Kevin (Susanne) Lewis, two grand daughters Rebecca Drabczyk and Christina DeVantier. She was the sister in law of Marvin Stoelting and was prededeceased by his wife Phyllis, as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marian (Delbert) Ellman and Norma (Franklin Jagow) (David) Stolzenburg. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her niece Patricia (Donald) Thompson was like a daughter to her.
The family will be present on Sunday, from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where a celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. R. Peter Vogeler and the Rev. Wayne R. Jagow officiating.
The Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary will be having at memorial service on Sunday at 6:30 PM.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to the Sanborn Historical Society, the Lutheran Service Society or to St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Interment in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria, NY.
