E.G. METZLOFF; Lumber Executive
TONAWANDA — Edward C. METZLOFF, 81, of 94 Grove St., a retired lumber company executive, died Sunday (Dec. 8, 1968) in Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of this city. He began his career in the lumber business in 1900 as an office boy for the Fenlon Box and Lumber Co. in North Tonawanda.
In 1915 he resigned as gernal manger of the firm and found the Tonawanda Lumber Co. in North Tonawanda.
With his brother Benjamin C. METZLOFF, he founded Metloff Brothers Inc., North Tonawanda in the early 1920s. In 1926 he started Tonawanda Corrugated Box Co. in North Tonawanda.
He retired in 1955 after 40 years as president of the Tonawanda Lumber Co. He also was a former member of the Tonawanda Board of Eduation in the early 1920s.
Mr. METZLOFF was a life member and trustee for many years of the Salem United Church of Christ. He was a 50-year member of Tonawanda Lodge 247 F and AM, a member of the Buffalo Consistory, the Imailia? Temple of the Shrine, and the Tonawanda - Grand Island Shrine Club.
He is survived by a son, Roland of Williamsville; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas NILAND of Syracuse, and Mrs. Vincent BONERB of the Town of Boston, N.Y.; two sisters, Misses Eleanor and Mayme, both of this city; a brother Benjamin of Buffalo, and 13 greandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Roth Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl H. Rest. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery
