- Raymond Allen Helsel, age 74 of Lewiston, NY, was called to his heavenly home on May 1, 2023, while at the Northgate Health Care Facility, in Wheatfield, NY. Born on January 20, 1949 in Niagara Falls, NY; son of the late Walter and Phyllis (Updegraf) Helsel. A graduate of Lewiston Porter High School, Raymond served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971. He was employed as a machinist at Nuttall Gear in Whetfield, was a member of the Niagara Frontier Bible Church, in Lewiston, and enjoyed bowling, watching sports, especially the Sabres and Buffalo Bills, and operating his remote controlled boats. Survivors include his loving wife, Chythia A. (Schubert) Helsel, whom he married December 23, 1974; four children, Carrie Helsel (Michael Neely), Kevin (Trish) Helsel, Teresa (Michael) Trank, and Angela Tupper; a sister, Marilou (John) Peters; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Brooke, Sean, Gabrielle, Stephen, Hannah, and Leah; and two great-grandchildren, Lilah and Odin. Raymond was also preceded in death by a sister, Diana (Jack) Lundy.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Thursday, May 4 from 4-7 p.m. Services will be conducted by Pastor Sam Torcasio, at 7:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Interment will take place in Niagara Falls Memorial Park, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice.
