- James J. Janowski of NIAGARA FALLS, New York
February 4, 1936 - October 28, 2022
James J. Janowski, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 after a lengthy illness. He was 86. He was born in Niagara Falls on February 4, 1936, a son of the late Joseph and Bernice (Gancasz) Janowski.
Jim attended local schools and then entered the United States Army and was assigned to Company D in the famed 1st Battalion Group, 28th Infantry Regiment where he served his country proudly until his honorable discharge in 1959. After serving his country he worked at Tulip Corporation for many years, retiring as a forklift operator.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his time attending his childrens school and sporting events throughout the years. He was a very active man who would be seen all over the city on his bicycle, enjoying the sights and people he would encounter. He was devoted to country music and its history and together with his beloved wife Mary they met many famous country music artists throughout the different eras.
Jim was a longtime pal of Lou (“Ramblin’ Lou”) Schriver of WXRL Radio and would often accompany him to shuttle music stars of the day to the local concert venues. On one such occasion he was to accompany Ramblin’ Lou to transport an emerging star from the airport to the concert venue but had to cancel out at the last minute and missed out on chauffeuring Elvis Presley; a story that he always laughed about. One of his most memorable times was when he and his wife, met Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash having dinner together and danced the entire night away. He absolutely loved Johnny Cash.
Mr. Janowski is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Catherine (Filbert) Janowski, his son Michael Janowski, his daughter Joanne (Rene) Janowski and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sons: Jesse Janowski (1978), Edward Janowski (1995) and John Janowski (2015) and his sister Florence (late Chuck) Guagenti (2019).
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls on Wednesday, November 9 from 3 to 7 PM where services will be held at 7 PM immediately following the visitation.
