- Mary's Obituary
Mary C. Janowski, a lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, following a brief illness. She was 85 years old.
Mary was born in Niagara Falls on June 30, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Filbert) Adoulf. She attended local schools but did not graduate. At the young age of 16, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Janowski. Shortly after, she traveled to Germany to be with him while he served in the United States Army. During her time overseas, Mary had the opportunity to visit many countries, including a memorable visit to Paris, where she stood atop the Eiffel Tower.
Mary was an amazing mother, wife, and grandmother who loved the outdoors. Her faith was central to her life—she loved Jesus, attending church, and reading. She found joy floating in the pool with a good book, gardening, and caring for plants, blessed with an exceptional green thumb. Mary was also an avid bowler for over 40 years.
Taking care of others came naturally to Mary. She always made sure her friends and loved ones were looked after. She loved country music and, alongside her husband Jim, had the chance to meet many famous country artists throughout the years. She also deeply loved animals, especially her dogs, who were cherished members of her family.
In October 2022, Mary moved to Glenwell DePaul in Cheektowaga, and in April 2024, she became a resident of Elderwood at Lancaster Skilled Nursing Facility. There, she met many wonderful people who made her feel safe, cared for, and at home.
Mary had a special gift—she could always put a smile on your face, no matter how bad the day had been.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late James Joseph Janowski. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Rene) Janowski; her son, Michael Janowski; a brother, Carl (Pat) Filbert; three grandchildren, two nieces, Katie (Craig) Meeks and Lisa (Kyle) Paisley.
She was predeceased by her sons, Jesse Janowski (1978), Edward Janowski (1995), and John Janowski (2015), as well as her sister, Joanne Ferguson (Filbert), who passed away in 1956.
Mary’s kindness, warmth, and love for others will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 12 noon- 3 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where memorial services will be held at 3 PM. The interment will be private.
