Joseph E. Bernas, “Joe” 83, of North Tonawanda died on July 18, 2024. Loving husband of Angeline (nee DiVirgilio) Bernas. Dear father of E.J. Bernas and Michelle Bernas. Brother of Frances (Jerome) Kubiniec, Mary Ann (Daniel) Wlodarczyk, Patricia (Mack) Argentieri. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Donald (Lori) DiVirgilo, and sister-in-law Ruth DiVirgilio, (late Vincent). Joseph is also survived by many dear friends.
Joe retired from National Fuel Gas where he was a supervisor. He was U.S. Navy Veteran from 1959 to 1963 and he was a ADR3, Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He was a member of the Third Warders Club, Sikora Post 1322. Joe was an avid woodworker, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time on Trout Lake, Barry’s Bay, in Ontario where he was a founding member of the P.I.M.F. Joe was a season ticket holder with the Buffalo Bills for over thirty years. He made the best Chowder on this side of the Erie Canal.
There is no prior visitation, Joe will be laid to rest at the Western New York National Cemetery at a date to be announced. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the Third Warders Club from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc. 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
