- Mary Ann Ghougasian, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 7, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Eberhard) Lauzau and wife of the late Edward Ghougasian.
She attended St. Mary of the Cataract Elementary School and Niagara Falls High School. She met her husband Edward when she began working for him as a waitress at the Park Restaurant. They then operated the iconic Club Restaurant and eventually the Greens Restaurant on the Hyde Park Golf Course.
Mary Ann was happiest when she was taking care of others and she always made you feel comfortable and welcome whether at home or the restaurant. She will be remembered by her family for her love of animals, her cozy cottage on the lake, the afghans that she crocheted for everyone, love of music (her best friend was the late Hank Hamam) and dancing (she was an instructor at Arthur Murray), and memories of all the laughs and the good times that were shared. Her grandsons were the light of her life.
In addition to her husband, Mary Ann is predeceased by her brothers Ronald, Donald and James Lauzau, and sister and brother-in-law Caroline (Ralph) Scozzafava. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Margaret (Michael) Powell, sisters-in-law Mary Lauzau and Diane Lauzau; daughters Pauline Ghougasian and Laurice (Christopher Parker) Ghougasian, near-daughter Sandra Perryman, grandsons Eamon and Emory Weber, ex-son-in-law Shawn Weber, cousins Judith Lengen and Marcia Bundy, many nieces and nephews, her cat Kit-Kat, numerous grand-cats and grand-dog.
A private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery for immediate family and a memorial will be held at a future date to be announced.
The family requests donations in lieu of flowers in Mary Ann’s memory to St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church and Operation PETS Spay/Neuter Clinic of Western New York. Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
