- Clara ‘Kat’ Gonyea, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 in Elderwood at Wheatfield. Born in Logan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Keck) Curtis.\
Kat moved with her family to Niagara Falls as a child and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On May 15, 1965, she married Kenneth J. Gonyea Sr. and together they raised their four beloved children. Mr. Gonyea passed away January 16, 2016, after 50 memorable years together.
Kat enjoyed following her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and extracurricular activities throughout the years. She also loved cooking, tending to her yard, as well as listening to music, especially Elvis. Above all, Kat dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Kat is survived by two children, Kenneth J. (Mary) Gonyea Jr., Kim (Marc) Tibbits, and was sadly predeceased by her sons, Jerald Gonyea and Kraig Gonyea. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Meghan (fiancé Jarrad Mendel) Gonyea, Ali Gonyea, Olivia Gonyea, Jessica (Jerel) Price and Jared (Sky) Tibbits; three great-grandchildren, MaKenzie, Ainsley and Madison; her siblings Rose Kargatis, Peggy Tamborello, Earnestine Eodice; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five siblings Mary Cicero, Bess Kolaga, Janet Arbogast, Linda Alm and Charles Curtis Jr, USMC.
Kat’s funeral services will be held Friday, October 4 at 2:00 PM at Riverdale Cemetery, 5605 Old Lewiston Road, Lewiston, NY 14092. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Oishei Children's Hospital (Child Life Department), 818 Ellicott Street Buffalo, NY 14203, ochbuffalo.org. Arrangements by M.J.
