- Ellsworth W. “Bud” McKelvey, 103, passed away October 11, 2019 at his son and daughter-in law’s home in Rush, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he resided in the LaSalle area for many years, and relocated to Rush, NY in 2016. He was the son of the late Elize and Nellie (Hartman) McKelvey. Bud was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving with the 299th Core of Engineers during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was predeceased by his wife, Bess (Kay) McKelvey who passed away in 1995.
Ellsworth worked at his family’s business, E.C. McKelvey & Son Jewelers in Niagara Falls until it closed in the late 1970’s. He then was employed in the paint Department of K-Mart. and at Crandle’s Paints. Bud was a talented woodworker and especially enjoyed creating carvings. He also enjoyed reading, visiting many WNY Winery’s, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his family, friends and neighbors.
Ellsworth is survived by his son, Eric (Mary) McKelvey, his daughter, Joanne (Walt) Deland; one grandson Michael (Kelly) Deland; his great-granddaughters, Sarina and Hailey Deland; and his brother Dick (Marilyn) McKelvey, as well as several nieces, nephews, many good friends and neighbors.
Bud’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 12 Noon at Acacia Park Cemetery Chapel 4215 Tonawanda Creek Road North Tonawanda, NY, followed by Military honors. Flowers gratefully declined; memorials in Ellsworth’s honor may be sent to local veteran’s support services at S.E.R.V. 80 Park Ave. Lockport, NY 14094 or to The American Legion Riders Post #1415 6525 Ward Rd.
