Robert Schilling.17, of Middleport, was drowned vesterdav while swimming in Mirror Lake near here. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schilling.

A 17-year-old Middleport youth, Robert Schilling, of the Telegraph Road, was drowned early Monday evening while swimming in Mirror Lake, Gasport, within sight of a lifeguard and many others seeking relief from the intense summer's heat He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schilling.
The boy's body was recovered within four or five minutes. Artificial respiration was continued by bathers and Gasport Volunteer Firemen for one and one-half hours.
Mirror Lake is a private lake owned by Arthur Shaeffer of Gasport. After an autopsy performed this morning at Lockport City Hospital,Dr. Walter Altbach of Newfane.coroner, issued a verdict of death by accidental drowning. He ordered the autopsy because be felt there was a possibility the swimmer might have suffered a heart attack. No evidence to support this theory was found.Gary Resseguie, 16, of Chestnut Ridge Road, Gasport. told the coroner that he and young Schilling were swimming together. They dove from a raft together and started for shore about 75 feet away. .When he reached the shore,the Resseguie boy said he looked back and saw too Schilling youth struggling to the water and feebly calling for help.Gary said he started back to help Robert but the boy slipped from his grasp. He was quickly joined by Charles Enztona, 125Garden St., lifeguard, and Robert Price. 460 High St., another bather.Mr. Pries quickly located the Schiilling boy and brought him to the shore where artificial respiration was immediately started. The Gasport Fire Company was called and responded with a respirator.Sgt. John Ginty and Sheriff's Deputies Raymond Townsend and Charles Sanibrd were called but their services were not needed. The Schilling boy was a junior at Royalton - Hartland Central School, .where he was a student councl representative and member of the cross country track team. He was a member of the Audio-Visual Club and of St. Pater's Lutheran Church, Medina.Besides his parents, be leaves a sister, Suzanne, at home; his grandparents. Mrs. Jennie Schilling of Middleport and John Leffler of West Shelby.Friends may call this evening from 7 to 10 p. m. tomorrow from 4:30 to 10 p. m. at Wallace and Health Funeral Home, Middleport.Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 at St. Peter's Luthern Church, Medina. The Rev. Paul H. Nemeschy will officiate. Burialwill be to Mt. Pleasam Cemetery,West Shelby.
