John W. Neff, 71, a Republican political leader in Erie county about 20 years ago, died at 7:23 A.M. Thursday in his home, 356 Hudson street.
He was born in Buffalo, March 12, 1860, son of the late Louis and Sophia Neff, and spent his entire life in this city. His activities in Republican party affairs were climaxed by his election as county auditor about 30 years ago.
Mr. Neff was engaged in the contracting and real estate business for more than 35 years. He built a number of residences in Kenmore and Riverside when those sections were sparsely populated.
For many years he maintained a real estate office in the Ellicott square and later moved to the Gerrans building. He retired from active business five years ago.
His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Menzies, died in 1922 Surviving are two sons, Raymond J and Donald M. Neff and two daughters, Mrs. Mildred N. Goltz and Mrs. Ruth E. Slater.
Services will e held at 3 P>M> Saturday in the residence. The Rev. Elmore M. McKee, of Trinity Episcopal church, of which Mr. Neff was a member, will officiate.
