- Guido F. Fontanarosa, 93, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2021. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Pietro and Maria Fontanarosa; and beloved husband of Antoinette (Gagliardo) Fontanarosa, who he married at St. Joseph Church in 1950.
Guido was raised in Niagara Falls and served in the United States Marines until his honorable discharge in 1947. Guido had a tireless work ethic and was a master stone mason. He began working as a bricklayer for many years prior to joining his son’s company, Fontanarosa Construction Company.
Guido was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending numerous hunting seasons over the years at his cabin in the Southern Tier with his sons, grandchildren, nephews and friends. He also enjoyed tending to his garden, but above all, Guido’s life was centered around his beloved family who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, Guido is survived by his children, Peter Fontanarosa, Paul (Susan) Fontanarosa and Mary (Daniel) McGovern; his daughter-in-law, Donna Fontanarosa; his grandchildren, David (Erika) Fontanarosa, Peter (Emily) Fontanarosa, Mia Fontanarosa, Samuel Fontanarosa, Gino Fontanarosa, Daniel (Christina) McGovern, Jr., and Austin McGovern; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Lou, Juliette, Alice, Lucy, Millie, Olivia Fontanarosa, and Daniel McGovern, III.; sister-in-law Theresa Gagliardo; brother-in-law Armando (Jeanette) Pucci; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ennio (late Nevia) Fontanarosa, Mary (late Sam) Gullo, Ella (late Cosmo) Grizanti, Raffaela (late Archangelo) Frisina, Emily (late Joseph) Penque, Gino (late Mary) Fontanarosa, Alberto Fontanarosa, and an infant brother. He is also predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Josephine (late Anthony) Guetta, Yolanda “Patty” (late Robert Sr.) Hargrave, and his brother-in-law, Anthony Gagliardo.
Guido’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the N.F. Memorial Medical Center, especially Alicia Scott and all of the wonderful nurses and aides on the third and second floor for the excellent care and compassion provided to Guido. Also, a sincere thank you to their extended family and friends for all of the love and support throughout the past few weeks.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 23 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Guido’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12:30 PM in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, followed by Military honors and entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
