- Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Nickles, III, 57, passed away on January 2, 2021 in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Jill (nee Sisler) Nickles (Big John) and the late Charles W. Nickles, Jr.
Chuck graduated from LaSalle High School. He was a member of the United States Navy from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1988, serving as a holesnipe. He was employed as Superintendent of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center in Niagara Falls, NY for 7 years. He enjoyed building computers, and consulted with Microsoft and the FBI, serving as a member of the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team. In conjunction with his friend, Scot, Chuck ran the International Soldier Alliance gaming community with thousands of gamers from over a dozen different countries and throughout the entire US. Chuck was extremely proud of the fact he safely drove a Semi cross country for over 9 years resulting in a million miles plus. He was a member of the Kingsman Bowling League, the Brother Groundhogs and the Bills Mafia. He loved sailing on his 26-foot sailboat in Chautauqua Lake. Above all, he cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his children, Richard Gabrielli (Kelly), Jacqueline (Michael) Phillips, and Jessica Gabrielli (C.J.); his grandchildren, David Nickles and Jayden Saverino; his loving fiancee, Elvie Cartwright Mertz; his siblings, Brenda (Kevin) Wall, Carolyn Rick (Vinnie), Melanie (Dan) McCrae-Crate, Jennifer (John) Orzolick, Keith (Sandy) Truex, and Grace (John) Stewart; his nieces and nephews, Kristopher Wall (Vanessa), Brandon Wall (Rebekah), Anthony Rick III, Steven (Hannah) Rick, Timmy (Sam) Rick, Brianna McCrae, Aiden Crate, Emma Orzolick, Ella Orzolick, Jeremy Truex (Elizabeth), Melissa Truex, many great-nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loving dog, Jezebel of the Scarlett Letter.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7 from 2 – 4 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304 where Celebration of Life Services will be held at 4 PM. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
