John Fitch Succumbs to Long Illness
John W. Fitch of 37 Lakewood Village, Medina, died Wednesday at Medina Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born July 21, 1901, in the Town of Newstead, he was the son of Jacob and Mary (Lindke) Fitch. He. had been a farmer for several years, a carpenter, had owned and operated a grocery store in Barker, and operated a trailer court in Barker for 14 years before his retirement in 1963. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, and the Wolcottsville Golden Agers. Mr. Fitch was the husband of Mabel Fitch, father of Mrs. Leslie (Marian) Sharpsteen of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Melvin (Dorothy) Jago of Wolcottsville, the Rev. Laverne Fitch of Smithville, Texas, and the late Gerald Fitch; brother of Mrs. Frederick (Lydia) Mante of Churchville, Mrs. Alice Reabold of East Aurora, and Mrs. Norman (Viola) Lindke of Middleport. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, 10 foster sons and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call today (7-9) and Friday (2-4, 7-9) at the Bates, Wallace and Heath Funeral Home Inc., 38 State St., Middleport, and Saturday from 1 - 2 p.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Glenn W. Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Bloomlngdale Cemetery, Akron. Memorials to St Michael's Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family.
