Shirley Ann (nee Zgonce) DePonceau, 86, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on January 23, 2021. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 3, 1934 to the late Charles and Esther (Hooker) Zgonce.
Shirley graduated in 1955 from Sisters of Charity/Canisius School of Nursing and later earned her Bachelors Degree in Health and Human Services from Empire State College. For many years she was employed as a Public Health Nurse for Niagara County Health Department, retiring in 1996. Shirley was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Raphael Parish.
Shirley is survived by children, Janelle (Steve) Stall, Marcy (Tom) Castle, David (Jennifer) DePonceau and Michael (Nancy) DePonceau; grandchildren, Jeremy, Marisa, Jamie, Rachel and Michael; great-grandchildren, Emilly, Abigail, Madyson, Hannah, Jackson, Harrison, Sebastian, Roman and Jackson; dear sister, Carol (Harry) Tasson and nephews, Christopher and Harold Tasson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Jr. and William.
No prior visitation. Shirley’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately for her family at St. Raphael Parish, Niagara Falls, NY. Prayers of committal and internment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Rd, Youngstown, NY 14174. Professional arrangements are under the direction of Michael R.
