- Don S. Catalano, 80, of Niagara Falls, passed away on April 28, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Tolomeo) Catalano.
Don was a 1958 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. As a young man, he worked at his family's business, Tony's Dry Cleaners, in Niagara Falls, NY. He served proudly in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer during the Vietnam War in Frankfurt, Germany from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1965 and served in the Reserves until 1969.
He began his career as a Casino Manager in Las Vegas, NV, and later worked in Reno, NV, where he was instrumental in the opening of the largest casino in the world at the time, the MGM Grand. He finished his career as a Casino Manager in Chicago, IL.
Don was a devoted family man, whose love of music, playing guitar, and dancing prevailed throughout his life. After retirement he delighted in woodworking and traveling throughout the United States with his wife, Catherine. Don's life was truly centered around his work, friends and family.
Don is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine (Caridi) Catalano; his children, A. Joseph (Lynn) Catalano, Esq., Anthony (Lourdes) Catalano, Ret. NFPD, David (Jeanna) Catalano, Geniene Catalano, and Matthew (Sarah) Catalano; his grandchildren, Madeline, Allison, Anthony Jose, M.D., Annmarie, Cristina, David Paul, Josephine, Remy, and Sophia; as well as, two nieces and eight nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise (late John) Wohlheiter.
Don's family would like to thank the Veteran's Administration and Niagara Hospice House for the care and compassion shown to him and his family.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10 AM on Saturday, May 22 at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301, followed by Don's Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
