- Obituary of Roland H. Simmons
Roland H. Simmons Jr. passed away on Friday May 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lockport on Jun 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Roland H. Sr. and Jean (nee Phrang) Simmons. Roland served in the US Coast Guard where he took part in the decommissioning ceremony of "the Hawthorn", the oldest continuously-operated ship in the service of the country. He worked as an interstate truck driver for VanDeMark Chemical in Lockport. He loved trucking so much that after retirement, he worked another 10 years for Golding Trucking! Honest to a fault with a heart of gold, Rol loved shopping for gifts for others, Florida sunsets with Joan, boating, flea marketing, collecting bottles and his fur babies.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan (nee Lentivech) Simmons. Father of Lori (David) Ragan, Susan (Mark) Bedient and. Dr Patricia (Robert) Danaher Haag. Grandfather of Ashley Ragan, Andrew Bedient, Matthew (Madison Ames) Bedient, Benjamin Haag, Samuel Haag, Charles Haag and the late Chrissy Bedient. Roland is also survived by his brothers, Marc (Sheila) Simmons and Paul Simmons and several nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday 4-7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Corwin Cemetery, Newfane. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Make A Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
