- Dana Thomas Greene, Sr., Ret. NFPD, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Dorothy (Rizzo) Greene.
Dana graduated from LaSalle Senior High School and attended Niagara University. He was employed as a detective with the Niagara Falls Police Department for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1985. During his service, he was the recipient of the Levy Brother’s Heroism Award in 1978, and also owned and operated a private security company. Following his retirement, he served as Captain of Security Operations for the Amtrak police, and also worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Dana was a talented guitarist and played with several local bands in the area. He was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed golfing, and was a gifted artist. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his greatest blessing.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife and best friend, Irene (Rufran) Palillo.
Mr. Greene is survived by his children, Dana (Joanne) Greene, Jr. and Tammy (Robert) Nicholas; four grandchildren, Dana Greene, III, Alison Greene, Beau (Amanda) Bradshaw and Benjamin Nicholas; his sister, Robin Greene; and lifelong friend, Nicholas Rizzo, who was like a brother; his godson, Todd Rizzo; nephew, Tony Maiello, as well as his close friends, Bob Heisner and Randy Golias, Cheryl Incorvia and Tom Zwelling.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9 from 4 – 8 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Funeral services with N.F.P.D Honors will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M., in St. Joseph Cemetery, 3806 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, interment to follow.
