- Austin McGovern, 24, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on December 23, 2022. Raised in Lewiston, he was the loving son of Daniel and Mary (Fontanarosa) McGovern.
Austin was a 2016 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School and obtained his Welding Certificate from NCCC. For the past three and a half years, he was employed by the Niagara Falls Water Board where he loved what he did, but loved his coworkers even more. This special group of friends became a second family to him. Prior to that, Austin worked at Coppins Service Center in Lewiston, always taking great pride in the new mechanical skills he learned from Jay.
An avid outdoorsman, Austin enjoyed hunting, target shooting, four-wheeling, and off-roading in his Jeep. Austin and his dad worked on multiple projects together where he learned more about life and love than anything else.
Austi shared a special bond with his grandparents; spending time with them was a constant in his life. He lived for the times spent with his family, especially with his brother Daniel, Christina and precious nephews, Danny and Mack.
Austi will be greatly remembered for his kind soul and heart of gold. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten in the hearts of his beloved family and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, Austin is survived by his brother, Daniel (Christina) McGovern, Jr.; his nephews, Daniel III and Mack McGovern; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Lucia McGovern; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Guido and Antoinette Fontanarosa.
Visitation will be Friday, December 30 from 3 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Austin’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Please assemble at Church. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
