- Walter R. Hartman, Sr., just had celebrated his 95th birthday, passed away, unexpectedly, on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his residence. Born on March 3, 1920, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Emily (Hooper) Hartman. Mr. Hartman was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. Walter proudly served in the Merchant Marines, during World War II and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1945. On March 18, 1945, Walter married the former Marilyn Martin. For 43 years, he was employed by Union Carbide, until his re-tirement in 1982. Mr. Hartman was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Walter loved to walk. In addition to his beloved wife of 70 years on March 18th, Mr. Hartman is survived by one son, Walter R. (Carolee) Hartman, Jr. of Colorado; one grand-daughter, Emily Hartman of Utah; one adopted grandson, David Winters; one sister, Joann (William) Fearn of North Tonawanda, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by one grandson, Christopher Hartman and five siblings, Ethel Crawford, Evelyn, David, Donald and William Hartman. There will be no prior visitation. Private graveside services will be held in Mt. View Cemetery, Cambria, NY. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1010 Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
