Leonard"Lenny" Zientara I, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was 60. He was born in Niagara Falls on September 9, 1962 and was the son of Diane (Hartman) Zientara and the late Eugene Zientara.
Leonard was known for being a handy man and an outdoorsman. He had a heart for conservation and the rehabilitation of injured wildlife. He is remembered as "always moving"- he would be up before the sun, a cup of coffee in hand, getting ready to take the kids out on the boat in Lake Ontario. Leonard introduced many to the sports of fishing, hunting, and trapping. He was rarely inside, but when he was you could catch him enjoying chicken wings and watching the Buffalo Sabres hockey games.
Leonard is survived by his three children, Leonard Zientara II, Joseph Zientara and Taylor (Zientara) Ahmed, and their mother Sandra (Sauberan) Zientara; his partner, Ronale Baum; brother, Corey (Kelly) Zientara; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leonard was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Zientara I in 2022 and his mother-in-law, Judith (Krehan) Sauberan in 2015. The family is comforted by the (sometimes humorous) thoughts of the three of them being together once again.
There will be No Prior visitation and a Celebration of Life gathering will take place on a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations will be collected by his daughter: Taylor (Zientara) Ahmed, to sponsor a youth fishing award in Leonard's memory to be distributed through the LOC Lake Ontario Sportfishing Organization.
