- William John Phillips, VII
June 22, 1947 - March 27, 2022
William John “Billy” Phillips VII, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 after a lengthy illness. He was 74. He was born in Niagara Falls on June 22, 1947, a son of the late William John Phillips VI and Eleanor (Wendt) Phillips.
William attended local schools including the Deveaux School and then entered the United States Army, serving his nation until his honorable discharge in 1973. Mr. Phillips worked for Certo Brothers Distributing in Buffalo for many years.
Billy was an accomplished musician and played the bass in many bands in the Falls area for over 60 years. He was a recording artist for Atlantic Records and also worked on Al Green’s first album. He was a true lover of music and a loyal promoter of local musicians. Billy was the founder and former president of the Niagara Falls Musicians Hall of Fame. He was and always will be a musician’s musician.
He enjoyed boating, listening and playing the blues and travelling but his greatest joy was his time with his family and friends.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Lori (Saverino) Phillips and three children: William John (Terri) Phillips VIII, Ericka (Jon) Rowcroft and Mark Saverino. He is also survived by his sister Sharron (Jack) Boehm, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may visit Billy's family at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 3 to 7 P.M. where funeral services will be held at 7 PM immediately following the visitation.
