- MAUREEN T. OLSON
Of Lewiston NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her home under the care of Niagara Hospice surrounded by her loving family and friends. Maureen was born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 2, 1954, a daughter of Kathleen [Eames] McMurray and the late David McMurray.
She was graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh University. Shortly after college Maureen enlisted in the US Army Reserves and served for 13 years, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
When her daughters began school, Maureen became a teacher’s aide at Lewiston Porter School District and retired 5 years ago and was also a longtime, part time waitress at the Youngstown Village Diner and loved her “Diner Family” as well as her regular customers.
Maureen was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer 20 months ago. All throughout her illness, she never despaired or complained. Whenever she was asked how she was doing, the reply was always the same, "I’m good."
Until her illness, Maureen was an avid walker and loved walking with her dogs Benji and Zoey and was a yearly participant in the Ride for Roswell.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years John Olson, loving mother to Katie (Mike) Dahlheimer and Chrissy (Dustin) Lorello, loving grandmother to Luke and Matthew Lorello, dear sister of Mike (Frances), Patrick (Sue), Eddie (Analisa), Danny (Peggy) McMurray and Kathleen (Ludo) Ducrocq, sister-in-law of Morris (Louise), Chuck (Maureen) Olson and the late Greg (Cindy) Olson, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family will be present on Sunday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
Friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:30 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY.
Memorials may be made to her to Niagara Hospice or the Niagara County SPCA.
