- Dorothy A. (nee Bateman) Gatto, 80, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on October 6, 2022, at her residence. Born on January 16, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late John 'Jack' Bateman and the late Jennie (nee Mickewicz) Taddeo.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara and graduated from the first graduating class of Niagara Wheatfield High School. She retired from Nabisco, where she worked in their quality control department. Dorothy was a member and communicant of St. Mary of the Cataract Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed spending time at her home in Lady Lake, Florida and was an avid golfer.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Anthony (Peggy) Gatto, Sam (Judy) Gatto and Jim (Kelly) Gatto; grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Stefanski, Gina (Sheldon) Bivens, Anthony (Tara) Gatto, Adria Gatto, Sara (Jack) Hornung, Jackie (Nick Winslow) Gatto, Leah Gatto, James (Noelle) Gatto and Cory Gatto; eight great-grandchildren; lifelong friends, Sandy and Mark Lechner and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving companion, Dave Paul and her sister, Barbara Caffo.
There will be no prior visitation. Dorothy's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259 4th Street., Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. Friends invited. Everyone assemble at the church. Private prayers of committal and interment in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice.
